The "just use whatever you want" attitude to browsers is a nice idea, but your choice should be an informed decision and sometimes criticism is worth taking note of as there's sometimes good reason for it outside of just "browser fanboyism." But I feel people should certainly be aware of what Opera collect in order to be able to make that choice. If you want to continue Opera after knowing this, that's up to you. That's why people (rightfully) call Opera out on their terrible privacy practices. ![]() There's plenty of browsers out there that don't send your browsing history to its maker's servers. If the browser wasn't forwarding your browsing history to begin with, there'd be no reason to fear it being shared with any company or state actor as they'd have nothing to share. Peoples' concerns should be less of who owns the company, and more about what data they're collecting in the first place. Keystrokes input into the address bar are also sent to their servers too. Unfortunately, those come at a pretty steep price from a privacy perspective and this is something its users should be aware of.Įvery domain you visit is sent in real-time to the Opera servers, allowing them to build a complete picture of your browsing history.
